ABOUT OPTMS

Built by transport software specialists for automotive vehicle delivery experts

OPTMS was created to help businesses move vehicles more efficiently, using the people, transporters and capacity they already have.

Behind the system is experience spanning first mile, middle mile and last mile delivery software, transport management systems, route planning and high volume transport operations.

OPTMS brings that experience into automotive vehicle movement, where planning becomes significantly more complex. Every movement depends on the vehicle being transported, the transporter carrying it, the driver completing the journey, the route they can take, the sites involved and the commitments that must be met.

We believe those decisions deserve software designed specifically around them.

THE EXPERTISE BEHIND OPTMS

Built on experience in transport technology

The team behind OPTMS has worked across transport management, delivery planning and operational software used to coordinate large numbers of movements.

That includes systems designed to plan routes, allocate drivers, manage transport assets, monitor delivery activity and help operations teams make better use of available capacity.

Working across different parts of the delivery industry revealed a common problem. Transport systems are very good at recording what has been planned, tracking what is happening and managing what has already been decided.

There is a much bigger opportunity in helping planners decide what should happen in the first place.

OPTMS applies that thinking specifically to automotive vehicle delivery.

WHY WE CREATED OPTMS

Automotive vehicle delivery has a planning problem...

Today, many vehicle transport operations still rely on manual planning knowledge, spreadsheets and experience-based decisions. As networks grow, this becomes increasingly difficult to optimise.

A planner may need to consider the type and dimensions of the vehicle, transporter capacity, payload, driver qualifications, remaining driver hours, collection and delivery windows, site access, route restrictions, loading sequence, operating costs and what else the transporter could carry on the same journey.

Change one part of that plan and several other decisions can change with it, rippling far through your movement plans.

Most transport systems were not designed around that level of automotive-specific interaction. OPTMS was.

It brings the information needed to make those decisions into one planning environment, helping teams assess possible movements, compare options and understand the operational effect of each choice.

A NEXT-GENERATION TMS

From managing transport to optimising transport

Traditional transport management systems are primarily built to manage transport activity.

OPTMS is designed from the ground-up to optimise it.

Instead of treating the route, driver, transporter and load as decisions that have already been made, OPTMS considers them together as part of the planning problem.

The system can assess the available vehicles, drivers, transporters, destinations, operating constraints and delivery requirements, then help planners identify combinations that make better use of fleet capacity.

As conditions change, those decisions can be reconsidered using the latest available information.

This changes the role of the TMS. It becomes more than a place to administer movements. It becomes a tool for deciding how those movements should happen.

BUILT AROUND REAL OPERATIONS

Optimisation has to work outside the software

A transporter has physical capacity limits. A driver has working hour restrictions and licence requirements. Sites have opening times. Vehicles have different dimensions and weights. Routes can contain access restrictions. Customers have commitments that cannot simply be moved to make the optimisation easier.

OPTMS is designed specifically around these realities to help planners find a better movement plan that can actually be carried out.
